1. 3.11東日本大震災 (3月)
   地震四度目の大地震(国内では初めて)でしたが、一番危機感＆緊張感を感じた地震でした。
   会社として、組織の長として、家族の長として、日本国民として、どう対応すべきかいろいろ考えさせられました。
2. 原発事故対応(3月+)
   #1と同じように、この国に対して、政治に対して、いろいろ考えさせられましたし、また情報の扱い方の難しさを体感しました。
   まだ、何も終わっていませんし、今尚、日々どう行動すべきか考えさせられます。
3. 人生初入院(10月)
   ３月にサッカーの試合で左膝半月板を損傷。その後、１０月に古傷の十字靱帯損傷と共に、膝の靭帯再建手術の為人生初入院しました。現在、日々リハビリに励んでいます。
   １月から自転車と軽いジョギングが解禁。スポーツ復帰(主にサッカーとスキー)は７月以降が目標です。
4. フランス＆イギリス行った(4月)
   １６年振りのヨーロッパでした。高校時代にやった一人旅の勢いで５日間で４つの世界遺産を回るというかなり強引な移動をやりました。（ウェストミンスター寺院/ロンドン -> パリのセーヌ河岸 -> モン•サン•ミシェル ->  中世市場都市プロヴァン)
   美術館も、大英博物館、ルーブル、オルセーなど回ってきました。
   震災から一ヶ月後でしたが、一瞬だけでも負の気を事を忘れる事ができました。
   （同時に、世界の人達の日本への暖かい声も感じる事ができました）
5. リビングのリフォーム(11月)
   ただ、広かっただけのリビングを一思いにリビング＆キッチンにリフォームし、更に暖炉やデッキも作りました。かなり快適ですが、資産的には寒くなりました。
6. 胃癌疑惑(9月)
   健康診断で、隆起性突起物があると診断され、再検査へ言ったらいきなり「隆起性突起物は、大概良性ポリープではなく、悪性（腫瘍）である事が多い」と脅され、父を胃がんで亡くし、両祖母も癌を煩った事がある、癌の血筋としてはかなりサラブレッドな家系に生まれていただけに、少々びびりました。
   再検査の結果、何もありませんでした。（おぃ！！）
7. シアトル行った(8月)
   ２年振りにシアトルへ行きました。 夏のシアトルは最高でした。
8. フロリダとサンタクララ行った(12月)
   出張で Fort Lauderdale, FL と Santa Clara, CA に行ってきました。
   フロリダでは、週末釣りに行き、1m 位のマヒマヒが釣れました。
   西海岸は、やはり懐かしい匂いがして、旧友にも会うことができ、充実した仕事とプライベートな時間が過ごせました。
9. マカオ行った(1月)
   初マカオでした。カジノがあるのにもかかわらず、一度もカジノフロアに行かなかった自分に驚き。

番外編

• Lake Tahoe 行けなかった
  今年こそ、Lake Tahoe へスキーに行く予定だったのですが、膝の手術の為断念。来期は必ず、みんなで集まろう。
• 神戸行った
  12月私用で神戸に行ってきた。細かい事は、ここには書けない内容なので、 興味ある人は個別に話しますw
• フットサル１部昇格
  今期から監督兼プレーヤーをやってるフットサルチーム “Take Reaction F.C.” が、２部で即優勝。ただ、膝の手術のため、自分は殆どプレー出来ず…
• 投資
  過去に類を見ない円高だったので、ドルのポジションを相当増やしました。
  株は、相変わらず US マーケットメインですが、今年は AAPL を空売りした(泣)以外は順調でした。今年利益確定した銘柄としては、GOOG, INTC, FFIV, RAX, RIM(空売り) あたりです。AAPL で利益を大分相殺させてますが…

最初の３文は、ダイハツ工業の社長からの言葉だそうですが、いいですねぇ。

これに対して、日本社会が目指しているものは、沈黙の中で相手の意図を汲み取り、議論を回避する事がベースにある。

どちらも長い歴史にもとづく固有文化なので、良し悪しではないが、この根本的なベースの違いを認識する事が、日本国外でのコミュニケーションで大事になってくる。

• Hit during my weekly team meeting (Video conferencing) with Tokyo and India team.
• When I first felt it, I was calm enough to joke to India team that “We are feeling earthquake, in case the building collapsed, it was great working with you, etc…”
• A moment after, felt the large one and immediately told India folkes, it is serious, and we had to go.
• “Walked” back (literaly hanging on to the wall side-by-side with both hands) to office, grabbed wallet, mobile phone, iPhone, and Windows laptop (Vaio P).
  *Didn’t grab iPad since I already had Apple/iOS device with iPhone, so chosed one Windows based device.
• Tweeted and Facebooked “Tokyo was hit by large earthquake, but we are ok at the moment” type of message.
• Told team members to stay put, and don’t rush into stairs to go down unless they were told to do so. The building is stable enough to sustain quakes. What we had to worry is injury through panic, and fires down stairs. (if there is fire, we should go down).
  Also, told everyone (on my floor) that work hour is over for the day.
• Kept checking Tweets, news site to figure out what’s happening.
• Heard that JR (Japan Railways) are out-of-service for rest of the day (around 4pm?)
• Told team members to prep for either walk back home or stay overnight at office. Also, at this point, told everyone that they are free to go back home. (otherwise, stay in the office)
• Took several people to walk back home together (as some of them didn’t know how to get there and I was on similar direction)
• Stopped by my former co-league’s office in Shibuya (UIE Japan).
• Walked to Shimokitazawa with Secretary of UIE Japan.
• Stopped by grocery store to buy batteries, some  bread for breakfast, snacks, etc.
• Walked back home. (total of about 4 hours)
• Watch TV and email all day…

3.12 and 3.13 (weekends)

• conf call with Company exec team every morning to sync up on status.
• Tsunami news all day long.
• nuclear plant news started to break out.  One of my grandfather’s friend had been publishing geiger counter reading for years in Tokyo, so started to monitoring that number. not much changes in Tokyo at the time.
• decided to close office early next week.
• Grocery stores started to run out of battery, flash lights, water, milk, bread, instant noodles, and meat products, and toiletary products.

3/14, 3/15

• daily conf call with Company’s exec team.
• on 3/15, geger counter reading started to go up quite a bit (after 2nd blow up).
• was told by my friend (who had close friends in Japanese government) to have family evacuate Tokyo just like many of governers are doing to their families.
• as the geiger counter reading went down to usual level (in Tokyo), decided to stay in Tokyo, thinking such action can cause more panic in Tokyo which was not necessary. (as radiation level were nomarl)

• Went to friends’ place who were working with government task force to save energy, and brainstorm some ideas.

• started “just in case” evac/business continuity plan.

People are taking care of families & friends, helping out others, doing what’s necessary to restore everything back up.

I’m sure we will prevail this disastrous event and come back even stronger.
